Trumped Again

Hey guys!!

Just to update you on my previous post, I have actually sold a few shirts and I think I'll be selling my old watch later today. So far, I can cover one bag which means I'm halfway there! As I said before, if you can help in any way please comment below. Words of encouragement are welcome!! But that's not what today's blog is about. It's about Trump being Trump.

On May 5th, President Donald Trump signed an executive order that had the dead rolling in their graves. He initiated the first step in allowing open discrimination towards those of a religious affiliation. In proper terms: Happy National Day of Prayer! Now if you are a Christian, I'm sure you're jumping for joy, looking towards the heavens, and giving God a nod for showing his spirit through your president. But if you believe in the equality of liberty, like me, you're just shaking your head in dismay. Think about this: there is already this thing, common people call it the Constitution of the United States, that states every American has the right to freely express their religious beliefs. So why sign off on an order that is literally preaching to the choir? Because it's not meant to get the choir out of their gowns and into suits. This executive order gives more authoritative power to religious organizations in politics. This has been the goal of conservative for many years and now they've received their blessing. Pro-Life lobbyists will have more political support and may actually cause the Supreme Court to rule abortion unconstitutional, as well as other contraceptives.

But I'd like to propose a very common hypothetical situation. What happens when an unwed 19 year-old Christian girl gets raped and is pregnant with the rapist's child? Should she have the right to abort? Of course, because she was raped. But what if she wasn't? Still yes! No child is ready to take care of another child. It's not a baby doll that can be tossed when you've lost interest or a dog that can be left behind unattended while you go to school or work. A child is a constant responsibility, and if someone isn't ready for that responsibility, they should have the right to choice no to have it.

The other side of involves religious discrimination. As I said earlier, this holiday is a miracle send from above if you are a conservative Christian. If you are Muslim, Sikh, Jewish, Hindu, or Atheist it's best to prepare to be tossed in the shadows. 75% of Americans identify as Christian, so if they have more political authority, it's possible that number will rise out of fear or decrease due to rebellion. Either way, policies geared towards Civil Rights won't be passes unless the church gives the "O.K." This could very well lead to more protests, riots, and marches that easily turn violent, causing America to be more divided than ever.

But there are Christians who don't agree with every word in the Holy Bible. Mainly, because it was written by man during time periods in history when the law of the land obviously differed from the 21st Century. President Trump is causing America to devolve and ACLU Executive Direction Anthony D.Romero agrees. "President Trump's efforts to promote religious freedom are thinly-veiled efforts to unleash his conservative religious base into the political arena while also using religion to discriminate. It's a dual dose of pandering to a base and denying reproductive care. We will see Trump in court, again."

There are many who understand tolerance of someone else's beliefs and respect them even if they don't accept them as the moral way to live. That's the kind of thinking America is moving away from. Some people are too sensitive and are mysteriously offended by actions of others. When will we learn to just live with each other with the strength to see everyone as they are rather than who we want them to be? That will be a day worth celebrating.
