How To Overcome That Monday Feeling
Hey Guys!!
Okay, okay I know what you're thinking. It's Monday. Melancholy Monday. And you're probably still shaking off the effects of a well spent weekend. But it's go time now and you need to transition from "Weekend You" to "Working You." I'm going to jump the gun and ask you the million dollar question now. And when you read it, please don't laugh, just humor me, okay?
Ready?...
Why replace your fun side with your formal side?
The obvious answer is that the workplace is no place for play, but it is a place that should bring you joy. When I was in middle school, my principle always gave words of wisdom every morning on the intercoms. One piece of advice that he pressed on our developing minds was if we had a career in what we loved, we'd never work a day in our life. As a twelve year old, not working ever in my life in exchange for a happy career sounded like a pretty good bargain. So that's what I've aspired to do. And ironically, that mentality has pushed me to work harder than I thought possible. We are all hard working people trying to take on life one day at a time, and when we get a break from life we see it as such: a separation from our everyday reality.
To an extent, I agree. The office is no place to party, but it's also not the place to be miserable. If you are working in your current field, but you are not happy, you need a change. Because that Monday feeling has probably lasted longer than Monday on multiple occasions. Or perhaps you actually enjoy your work just not the environment. Well that's where the "Weekend You" enters. The weekend you is the one that crushes in C.O.D, jams to live music, runs around with the kids, or just relaxed with a genuine, serene smile. That's the stress free you. The you that only lives after hours and on Saturdays and Sundays.
Let's change that. Let's bring that you to work. Allow yourself to amplify your spirits daily. Happiness is not a destination, it's a journey. And when we practice that daily, we become more proactive. Remember this: Liberation over Stagnation. Free your body and mind to grow. Free your creative side to flourish. Break the formality and change the perspective on your reality. Not every day should feel like Monday. If you believe this and make it so, soon not every Monday will be melancholy. Not every task will be grueling. Soon work will feel like play and you'll know what it feels like to never work a day in your life.
This is the beginning of your week. Set the tone to be progressive and enthusiastic. Your glass is always half full. Now, let's get back to work.
Merry Monday!
