Step Outside Your Comfort Zone
Hey Guys!!
Happy Saturday! I know the popular phase is TGIF. But, I work all day during the weekdays so today is my Friday. Thank God. I'm sure you've had a tough week. Plenty of critical circumstances you've had to strategically dissolve. I hope the daily boost of inspiration I give has been beneficial to you and there is more to come. But I know there were moments to implement what we discussed yesterday that didn't happen. That's okay. Remember Rome wasn't build in a day. And also acknowledge that you have to continue to try, even if it's outside of your comfort zone. I know this lesson all too well.
I have always been labeled as an introvert. I don't socialize with large groups of people. I have a tight circle of friends, and I'd rather check the progression of my business than go out to party. The only problem was that I had this idea and I felt so strongly about it that I had to tell someone about it. I had to share my vision through one of my worst nightmares: public speaking. This is an issue for just about everyone I know. And I always imagine standing in front of hundreds of people and stumbling over my words, my voice shaking with fright. Or perhaps not being able to say anything at all. This was not something that introverts want to do. But it was a challenge I needed to take head on if I wanted to display my ideas to anyone and have them take part in it.
And let me tell you, it was NOT easy. The first time I spoke to someone about my ultimate goal, they said, "cool." I was embarrassed. I stumbled, shook, avoided eye contact, basically did everything I had told myself not to do. However I was more embarrassed because I misrepresented the career I aspired to have. I sounded as if I were telling the person about someone else's desires and I lacked the intensity I had when I practice my elevator speech in my room or when I asked myself, which was often, why I would ever want to do what I wanted to do. And by failing, I knew how I could share my vision more effectively.
The one thing I want you to take away today, is that your have to do whatever it takes to accomplish you goals in life. There will be times when you encounter obstacles that you prayed you'd never have to overcome, but you have in order to more to the next level. And sometimes the challenge isn't that the obstacle is too hard or requires you to do the exact opposite of your character. Speaking publicly wasn't my main issue. It was that I didn't believe in my dream strongly enough to think someone else will care.
Don't do that. Your dream deserves the right to be in this world. It is your sight and you are its guide and interpreter. You should feel so confident in your future that you can do anything to make it reality. Speaking in public, handing out flyers, working temporary jobs, calling major corporations for insight. Whatever you have to do understand that whatever is in front of you doesn't deter you, rather makes you better. And you will be thankful in the end and proud of yourself for taking the next step in solidifying your dream.
This is what it means to Expand Your Horizon. You have to see beyond. Continue to build your skills and confidence. Always remind yourself why your dreams matter to you; your future is worth it.
Happy Saturday!
